The Nacogdoches Film Festival will kick off on Friday evening, Feb. 24, with the annual VIP party, which will be held in the heart of downtown at the historic Charles Bright Visitor Center. VIP Pass holders will have an opportunity to meet and mingle with guest filmmakers in an informal atmosphere before the Friday evening film.

Following the party, Two Trains Running, a documentary set in Mississippi during the height of the American civil rights movement about the search for two forgotten blues singers, will be shown at the Lamp-Lite Playhouse. Texas native Christopher North scored the music for the film and the screenplay was written by Benjamin Hedin. Both North and Hedin have confirmed their attendance at the Nacogdoches Film Festival. Immediately following the screening, there will be a Q&A session involving both guests.

The second film of the evening will be the feature film, Camino, a dark comedy about two slackers who steal a cooler looking for booze but, instead, find two human kidneys inside. Camino, the 2015 Stephen F. Austin State University Film Program summer film project, was directed by SFA graduate student Justin Herring and was completely produced by current SFA students. The annual summer film project is an integral part of SFA’s filmmaking program. Immediately following the screening, there will be a Q&A session involving various individuals involved in the making of this film.

The 6th annual Nacogdoches Film Festival will be held Feb. 24-26, 2017. Tickets are available online at www.NacogdochesFilmFestival.org

The Nacogdoches Film Festival (Nacogdoches Art Alliance) is an IRS-approved 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose goal is to raise scholarship money for film students attending Stephen F. Austin State University, as well as to provide financial support for the SFA Film program’s annual Summer Feature Film project, where SFA students experience firsthand the making of a full length feature film.
