The 2023 Summer Musical for Lamp-Lite Theatre is Schoolhouse Rock Live! originally adapted and produced for the stage by Theatre BAM from the series created by George Newall and Tom Yohe, based on an idea by David McCall, book by Scott Ferguson, George Keating, and Kyle Hall, music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, Kathy Mandry, George Newall, and Tom Yohe. Nita Hudson directs the cast of Lamp-Lite Players, with accompaniment by Charisse Gregory and scenic design by Todd Phillips.
A pop culture phenomenon comes to the musical stage in Schoolhouse Rock Live! The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, it's lighting up stages everywhere – from school multi-purpose rooms to university and regional theatres all around the country.
Schoolhouse Rock Live! follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction."
Dates of performances are June 30, July 1, 7, and 8, 2023, at 7:30 pm, and July 2 and 9, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Tickets are for reserved seats and are on sale beginning June 14th at Kline’s/Wrap-It-Up and the CVB through June 28th for the first weekend and through July 5th for the second weekend. Tickets will also be on sale at the Lamp-Lite Box Office 45 minutes before curtain of each performance. Prices are $15 for a normal ticket, $12 for seniors (60+ years), and $8 for students.
