SFA Gardens Lecture Series

Date: Feb 09, 2023
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Details

Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday Feb. 9, 2023 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building in the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

Cindy and Bryan Pruett of Appleby Community Farm near Nacogdoches will present “What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and how you can get involved.”

The Pruetts moved to Nacogdoches in 2007 to purchase and run a bed and breakfast. During that time, they said they were exposed to the serious problem of industrial agriculture and wanted to become part of the solution.

In 2009, along with Cindy’s parents, they purchased nine acres in the Appleby community and began to farm there. Fourteen years later, they continue to operate the CSA farm and sell fresh organic produce at the Nacogdoches Farmers Market. They also distribute the harvest for those who are Appleby Community Farm members.

Visit the Appleby Community Farm website at https://www.applebycommunityfarm.org/ for more information about the Pruetts and their work.

The Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series is held the second Thursday of each month and includes a rare plant raffle after the program. The lecture is free and open to the public, but donations to the lecture series fund are always appreciated.

Parking is available at the PNPC and Raguet Elementary School, located at 2428 Raguet St.
